The institute found that most of Belgium received only 1% to 9% of normal July rainfall, while the average temperature reached 20.9°C, 2.2 degrees above the norm.
Those national measurements support the conditions observed in Hainaut, although rainfall and soil moisture vary between fields. The Walloon agriculture administration said on 28 July that vegetation dryness had worsened across Wallonia after weeks of limited rain.
