Fire destroys clubhouse facilities of Royal Rugby Namur

Rugby union has never been a mass sport in Belgium. The Fédération Belge de Rugby oversees a licensed population numbered in the low thousands, concentrated in Brussels, Brabant, Hainaut and a handful of Walloon and Flemish towns, with the national side — the Black Devils — a second-tier European team that has spent its modern history in Rugby Europe competition rather than the Six Nations. Clubs in that ecosystem have historically been built by volunteers on municipal land, with clubhouses assembled incrementally over decades from subsidies, sponsorship and self-financed works. That history explains why a single fire is disproportionately damaging: what burns is often not a standard insured building but years of accumulated club-built infrastructure whose replacement value is hard to document and slow to recover.
