E19 between Brussels and Antwerp partially closed after bridge damage

The E19 is a major Belgian motorway linking Brussels, Mechelen and Antwerp before continuing to the Netherlands. It is a core commuter and freight corridor in Flanders. On 25 July 2026, La Libre reported a partial closure of the Brussels–Antwerp stretch caused by a damaged bridge. Separately reported incidents on the parallel E17 toward Antwerp — a twelve-hour lorry fire (7sur7) and an overnight accident closure (La Libre) — have since been resolved.

Belgium's dense motorway network, among the most heavily used in Europe, routinely faces disruption from accidents, vehicle fires and infrastructure faults on high-traffic corridors such as the E19 and E17. Bridge and viaduct condition has been a recurring maintenance concern on the Flemish network, where ageing structures carry very high daily traffic volumes.
