For people living in Antwerp, the announcement adds a large-format dance event to a nightlife scene that has recently shown signs of recovery after years of club closures. It also marks a strategic change for Full Circle: the established city festival has built its identity around Belgian talent and a single ticket spanning numerous clubs and unconventional venues, while Open Circle is designed to book international names for standalone events around Belgium.

The first edition runs from 22:00 until 06:00 at Antwerp Expo on Jan van Rijswijcklaan, according to the Resident Advisor listing submitted by promoter Better Together. Stussy is advertised for a three-hour set, while the organiser promises custom visuals on an immersive LED wall. The precise hall and attendance capacity have not been disclosed. Antwerp Expo, operated by Easyfairs, contains five halls of different sizes; its official venue information lists party capacities ranging from 2,100 to 4,000 people in the main halls.

The choice of Stussy gives the launch a clear cross-border pull. Resident Advisor identifies the artist, whose real name is Niels Steenbergen, as Dutch and describes him as a producer and label founder with an international schedule spanning Amsterdam, Ibiza, Berlin and the United States. He has also played repeatedly in Antwerp, including at Club Vaag and Garage Klub, so the booking combines a globally marketable name with an existing audience in Belgium.

There is a small naming complication. The event continues to advertise him as Chris Stussy, but Resident Advisor reported on 18 August that he had announced a change of alias to Chris Stassy. The organiser had not changed the Antwerp billing at the time of publication. That discrepancy does not affect the confirmed booking, although ticket-holders may see both spellings in listings and promotional material.

Open Circle’s arrival says something broader about how electronic-music promoters are adapting. A distributed city festival can support local clubs and encourage audiences to discover smaller artists, but its scale and complexity differ from a single-venue production built around one prominent name. Open Circle allows Better Together, the Antwerp company behind Full Circle, to enter that international headliner market without abandoning the Belgian-only focus of its original festival.

Those models do not pull in exactly the same direction. Better Together presents Open Circle as a broader horizon that can place Belgian performers beside global acts in distinctive venues. Full Circle organiser Jochem Peeters has simultaneously stressed the importance of permanent clubs. After the 2025 festival drew a reported record 27,000 visitors, Peeters told Gazet van Antwerpen that younger visitors were increasingly choosing unusual festival locations over established partners such as Ampere, Capital and Club Vaag, and that the organisation wanted to restore the balance.

VRT NWS supplied another side of that debate in its reporting on Antwerp’s nightlife recovery. Peeters told the public broadcaster that successive closures—including Petrol, Café d’Anvers, Onder Stroom and Pekfabriek—had pushed some audiences towards Brussels and foreign cities. New clubs and events are therefore welcome, but a successful arena-style night does not automatically secure the year-round ecosystem of smaller venues, staff and emerging performers.

No Belgian government or EU institution has an evident operational role in the announcement, and no relevant political response has been reported. This is a Flemish cultural-business story rather than an EU policy development. Its international dimension comes from the Dutch headliner, Open Circle’s cross-border booking strategy and Antwerp’s attempt to compete for audiences who already travel within the Benelux dance circuit.

The immediate questions are commercial and curatorial: whether the first edition sells strongly, how prominently its Belgian support artists are presented and which locations and international headliners follow. Full Circle says more editions are planned but has not published a wider calendar. November’s debut will show whether Open Circle can expand Antwerp’s reach while still feeding the local scene from which the concept emerged.
